What happens next?

Once I've read your message I'll reply within one working day — usually sooner. If it sounds like a good fit, I'll suggest a short call to find out more about your project before we discuss anything else.

There's no commitment involved in getting in touch. If the timing isn't right, or the project isn't something I can help with, I'll always tell you honestly — and point you in the right direction if I can.

FAQs / working with Brandsmith

Do you work with businesses outside of Devon and the South West?

Absolutely. While many of my clients are based across Devon, Somerset, Cornwall and the wider South West, I have worked with businesses across the UK and some internationally. Everything is managed remotely with ease — most projects never require a face-to-face meeting, though I'm always happy to meet locally when it helps.

Will I be working directly with you throughout the project?

Yes, always. When you work with Brandsmith you work with Dan — there are no account managers, no juniors, and no handoffs. You'll have direct access to the person doing the thinking and the making from the first conversation to the final file.

How many clients do you work with at once?

I work with a deliberately small number of clients at any one time. This is intentional — it means every project gets the attention it deserves, and you're never waiting weeks for a response because something else has taken priority.

How long does a typical branding project take?

A brand identity project typically takes between two to six weeks from kick-off to final delivery, depending on the scope and how quickly feedback rounds move. Website projects generally run four to eight weeks. I'll always give you a realistic timeline at the outset — and stick to it.

What does your process look like?

Every project follows four clear stages: Discover, Define, Design, and Deliver. It starts with a proper conversation about your business and goals, moves through a strategic foundation before any design begins, then into collaborative design rounds, and finishes with a full handover of everything you need. No surprises, no guesswork.

How many design concepts or revisions do I get?

Rather than presenting a large number of options, I work with focused, considered directions — typically two to three concepts at the initial stage. This keeps decision-making clear and avoids the confusion of too much choice. Each project includes a set number of revision rounds, which we'll agree upfront.

How much does a brand identity project cost?

Brand identity projects with Brandsmith typically start from £500 and scale depending on scope — whether that's a logo and core identity, a full visual system, or brand guidelines. Website projects start from £1,500. I'm always transparent about costs from the outset, and I'll provide a detailed proposal before any work begins.

Do you offer ongoing design support after a project is complete?

Yes. Many of my clients work with me on a retained or ad hoc basis after the initial project — for ongoing marketing materials, website updates, or new design needs as their business grows. It's one of the things I genuinely enjoy about the way I work.

What do you need from me to get started?

Not as much as you might think. A rough brief, a sense of your budget, and a willingness to collaborate openly is enough to begin. The discovery process is designed to draw out everything else — you don't need a perfectly formed brief before getting in touch.

I've never worked with a brand designer before — where do I start?

Just get in touch. I work with plenty of clients who are commissioning brand or design work for the first time, and part of my job is making the process feel straightforward and collaborative rather than intimidating. A short initial call is always the best starting point.

Can I see examples of your previous work?

Yes — visit the Work page of this site for a selection of recent projects across brand identity, web design, graphic design and more. For client Case Studies see the Home page here.  If you'd like to see work relevant to your specific sector or project type, just ask and I'll point you to the most relevant examples.
